Rich Meagher, Professor and Chair, Political Science. Randolph-Macon College; “Governor Spanberger. The First 100 Days”

Rich is Professor and Chair, Political Science at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland and the host of RVA’s Got Issues…a podcast exploring the big issues defining life in Greater Richmond.

Rich received a BA from Muhlenberg College, and holds an MA in Philosophy and PhD in Political Science from the City University of New York. Dr. Meagher came to Randolph-Macon College in 2009, after teaching for two years at Marymount Manhattan College in New York City, and held previous positions in the non-profit world.

He is an expert observer of local and state politics in Richmond and has been featured everywhere from print to television to radio. He is a political analyst forWRIC 8 News, and his commentary and opinion have appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, the Richmond Times-Dispatch, and his own RVAPolitics site.

His 2020 book, Local Politics Matters, argues for the importance of participation in city and county politics. In 2023, he launched the Virginia Amendments Project, a resource for scholars and citizens about amendments to the Constitution of Virginia. Rich and his wife and two daughters live just outside of Richmond.
